Lincoln Townley

Lincoln Townley

Lincoln Townley is a leading British contemporary artist. His work is exhibited across the world. He has had sold out shows at The National Gallery, The Royal Academy, Somerset House and The Saatchi gallery in the past five years. His forthcoming show for 2017 is The Surprise collection at the Brisbane Powerhouse which will run from August through to October and will then continue in Sydney for a further month. The whole show is to be orchestrated by The Rea Sea Gallery in Brisbane.

Townley’s artistic output is also defined by his original oil paintings, depicting figures drawn from the unconscious mind. These dark and disturbing images reflect Townley’s profound understanding of the chaos bubbling just below the surface of our lives which drive our desires to succeed and win in life. They also reflect his fearlessness as an artist and the ferocious energy with which he paints. Despite his global success, he still paints in his garage where he is known to lock himself away for days.

He is, perhaps, most famous for his ICONS, portraits of the world’s greatest stars such as Sir Michael Caine, Meryl Streep, Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio, Johnny Depp, Prince, Lionel Richie, John Cleese, Jodie Foster, David Bowie, and Jack Nicholson to name a few, which have earned him an international reputation for being able to portray the creative power of these iconic figures. He is the artist the stars want to work with and he was chosen as Artist-in-Residence for the 2015 BAFTA LA Britannia Awards where he painted the six Honorees and continues to be their artist in residence. In 2016 BAFTA LA commissioned Townley for a second year to create portraits of their Britannia Award honorees Samuel L Jackson, Ang Lee, Jodie Foster, Ewan McGregor, Felicity Jones, and Ricky Gervais.

On receiving his finished portrait Sir Michael Caine called Townley the new Andy Warhol.

Add to that, the obvious increase in value collectors of Lincoln Townley's work will see in their investments and it's easy to see why the demand for his paintings is great and growing
